Sustainability belongs to everyone
We Speak Sustainability is a living global archive of grassroots action. We discover, document and share the stories of people making the world more sustainable through large and very small actions, and we remember those whose work changed our relationship with Earth.
What we believe
We do not believe that only spectacular actions deserve attention. Humanity's ability to build a sustainable future is also hidden in ordinary acts repeated by ordinary people. Our job is to find those acts, listen to the people behind them, document what they have learned, and make their experience visible to the world.
So we don't only ask how much impact someone has made. We ask what they started.
Who we look for
Farmers, students, teachers, children and young people, parents, fishers, waste pickers, mechanics, shopkeepers, engineers, scientists, Indigenous and community knowledge holders, artists, gardeners, organisers, informal workers, volunteers, neighbours, families. Sustainability is not only something professionals do.
How a story becomes part of the archive
- Discover. Someone submits a story, or our editors find one.
- Listen. We read, ask questions and interview where we can.
- Check. We look for independent evidence and label every story with its evidence level.
- Share. We publish the story with its sources and, where it fits, a practical Copy This guide.
What we hope you feel
Inspired: “I didn't know people were doing this.” Capable: “I could do something like this.” Connected: “I'm not the only one trying.”
Images
We only publish photographs we have permission to use. Photos currently come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences or the public domain, and each one is credited with its photographer, licence and source. We never use stock images of people who are not in the story. Where no freely licensed photo exists, the story is shown with its own contour drawing until the people in it share their own.
